Volunteers Sought for Spruce Up Pekin
Organizer Roy Williams 346-4432 This spring’s drop-off sites are Mineral Springs Park, Fire Station 2 at the corner of 14th and Willow streets, 1130 Koch St., and the corner of Knapp and Sapp streets. Tires will be accepted at the Koch Street location only. People disposing tires will be required to pay a fee, which varies depending on the type. Passenger tires on or off the rim will cost $1.25 each; truck tires, $8 off the rim and $16 on the rim; and tractor tires, $18. Safety Kleen will collect used oil and antifreeze, Interstate Batteries will collect the many types of batteries, X-Waste will provide the dumpsters and garbage trucks, and Illinois Recycling will collect old computers and electronics. People with hazardous items like paint and pesticides not accepted at Spruce Up Pekin can take them to an unrelated waste collection on June 13 in Folepi’s Freedom Park in East Peoria.

Recycling for Illinois, Inc. is committed to saving our local communities from the hazardous materials contained in most electronics that include Mercury, Lead, Cadmium, and other chemicals that can pollute ground water tables. The goal is to create an e-scrap solution for non-working and unwanted electronics to spare our landfills from this waste stream, collect e-scrap, and turn items easily repaired back into local communities.
- Items may be easily dropped of at their large warehouse located at 309 Mechanic Street, Pekin. For large items, we do offer pickup services by calling 309-642-6225.
Data can be destroyed, including providing Certificates of Destruction.
- All donations are tax deductible with forms provided.
- Special pricing for schools, non-profits, agencies, if you need computers, parts, repairs, or business machines.
- If you are looking for vintage, out of production, computers, parts, laptops, cables, server equipment, or networking gear they will do their best to find what you’re looking for!
- If you want to donate time and volunteer, training is provided. Ask for their Volunteer Coordinator and an application.
- If you would like to give a financial donation, they are tax deductible and can provide a receipt for the contribution.
- Also recycles used appliances.
- Proud member of the National Recycling Association, Illinois Recycling Association and the Tri-County Green Matters Program as well as registered with the Illinois Dept. Of Commerce and Economic Opportunities or DCEO, IL.E.P.A., and with Peoria County Waste Reduction.
- Self-funded and receive grants via IL.DCEO. Through our subsidiary, Retro-Tech Electronics, we offer computers and computer related technology to low-income families, individuals with disabilities and students throughout the State of Illinois that would otherwise not have access to such technology.
